Log in and Log out

When you log in to IBM(R) Lotus(R) iNotesTM, you must enter your name and Internet password unless you give someone permission to see your free time. In that case, you do not need to enter a user name or password. Anyone can read entries in your Inbox to which you allow public access (meetings, calendar entries, and so on). However, to send mail or create calendar entries, you are prompted to enter a user name and Internet password.

  1. In your browser's address box, type the URL for your Lotus iNotes mail.
  2. Enter your user name and Internet password.
  3. If applicable, select one of the following:
  4. (Optional) Check Shared or Public Computer if you are logging in on a public computer, such as a kiosk. Checking this box prevents viewing of attachments.
  5. Click Log In.

For Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer users, Browser Cache Management may install automatically. If so, close all browser windows so that it becomes effective.

Making sure your logout is secure

When you log out, Lotus iNotes removes your logon credentials and private data from the browser's cache. Deleting this data prevents an unauthorized user from using cached information to access your mail file.

For Internet Explorer users, you can install Browser Cache Management on your system, or you administrator may have your system set up to clean the cache automatically.

For users who do not have Browser Cache management installed, you can manually select what to remove from the cache by selecting Logout for shared PCs or Kiosk Users when you log out. You can choose from these options:

Note The removal of private data from your browser's cache and more secure data clearing capabilities are available only if you accepted the Lotus iNotes control, and only if you explicitly select Logout for shared PCs or Kiosk Users when you log out.

Tip You can also set your browser to delete all files from the Temporary Internet files folder when browser window is closed. This action deletes any code and data that may be left in the cache.
