Using Quick Rules to Manage Mail

Quick Rules allow you to create simple rules based on incoming mail to eliminate messages with specific subject lines, sender names, or from specified domains. Most of the information required to create a Quick Rule is supplied automatically, so that you only need to determine the conditions and actions for the Quick Rule. You can then select one or more of these conditions to create a rule that will screen incoming spam mail with similar conditions. When you create a quick rule, it is enabled automatically.

After you create a quick rule, it can be opened, viewed, and edited as a regular mail rule.

To create a Quick Rule

  1. In your mail file, select the message to use as the basis for the Quick Rule.
  2. Click More > Create Quick Rule. Note that the Conditions fields are completed with the values from the selected message. For example, the Sender field contains the name of the message sender.
  3. Select one or more conditions to match -- For example, check When Sender, and select the state, such as is.
  4. Decide when to take action -- Choose whether you want to base your Quick Rule on some or all of the selected conditions.
  5. Choose the action to perform:
  6. Move to folder -- specify a mail folder to which the Quick Rule can deposit the message.

Change importance to high -- the Quick Rule changes the urgency level of the message.

Do not accept message -- prevents the message from being delivered to your mail file.

  7. Click OK. The Quick Rule is generated and stored in the Rules folder.

Note The new rule acts on incoming messages. Existing messages in the Inbox that meet these conditions are not affected.
