



New Features
This topic lists new features that were introduced in version 8.5.1 and below that, those that were introduced in version 8.5. Note that Some of the features in this list must be enabled by your administrator.
What's new in 8.5.1
- Archiving -- Archive Preferences have been organized to be more self-explanatory, and Help is built in to the Archive preferences panel so that you can get help when you need it. The archiving experience has also been improved, so that all enabled archiving criteria, including the private ones you create via preferences as well as any criteria defined by your administrator will show in the left navigator pane.
- Updated type-ahead - The type-ahead feature has been enhanced to display a list of recent contacts when you begin typing an address in a field that expects an e-mail address. You can disable this feature and remove one or all of the names in the type-ahead list by using Basics > Type-ahead preferences.
- Synchronize your Notes ID with the Notes ID Vault -- From Security preferences, you can synchronize your current Notes ID with the copy that is stored in the Notes ID Vault. In addition, if your mail file does not contain your Notes ID, synchronizing with the Notes ID Vault adds a copy of your Notes ID to your mail file.
- Perform Web-style searches -- You can search using a Web-style search, which treats multiple terms as though the AND operator connects them. Documents returned would have all the terms but not necessarily in the order they were entered.
- Open a Notes link in a browser or in Lotus Notes - When you receive a message that includes a IBM(R) Lotus(R) Notes(R) link, you can open the link in a browser, or in Lotus Notes.
- Folder unread count - All folders in the navigation pane display the number of unread messages. This count changes, for example, when you drag an unread message to a folder, or in the case of mail rules, when you click the refresh icon. Mouse over the folder name to see the refresh icon. Note that the Inbox and Junk system folder unread count updates automatically if you set the Mail preference to check for new mail.
- Improved Lotus Quickr Preferences - You can set preferences for Lotus QuickrTM places by selecting from a list of user-friendly server/place names, which you can filter by Favorites, All, or My Places. User-friendly names are available only if configured by your administrator.
- Automatically update mail views - You can set a Mail > General preference to automatically update your Inbox with mail you receive, and to notify you when new mail arrives.
- Calendar footer - You can display information, such as week numbers or day numbers in the footer. You determine what displays in the footer by setting a Calendar > Display preference.
- Updated Meeting preferences - You can set default conference call information that automatically populates your meeting invitation form when you schedule a meeting. Then, when you create an invitation, you can choose whether or not to include this information.
- Set Lotus Sametime Unyte preferences - You can set default values for online meetings using the IBM Lotus Sametime Unyte meeting service that will display when you create a new meeting invitation. Then, when you create an invitation, you can choose whether or not to include this information. You can also make Sametime Unyte your default online meeting service.
- Spell checker - In lite mode has been updated so that a single click completes spell check actions.
- Scroll hints - Set a Basics preference so that scroll hints display information about messages as you scroll through mail list views, based on how you have the view sorted. For example, if you sort a mail view by date, the message dates display as you scroll through the list of messages.
- Updated signature preferences - You can create a plain text signature and automatically add it to messages sent from ultra-light mode. You can also use your Lotus Notes signature, if you have created one in the Lotus Notes client.
- Preview pane actions - In full mode, you can perform some tasks from in the preview pane, such as accepting or declining a meeting invitation and viewing the message threads.
- Repair calendar - You can repair duplicate entries in your calendar.
- View delivery information - You can view delivery information on a message you receive. From an open message, click More > Delivery Information.
- Ultra-light mode - The mode name has changed from ultralite to ultra-light. New features include:
Mail - An address picker and a type-ahead feature are available when addressing messages, honoring the "keep private" delivery option, and the ability to automatically include a plain text signature. Also includes a new view management mode that allows you to perform actions on selected messages such as flagging them for follow up or marking them read or unread.
Calendar - The ability to accept or decline meeting invitations and a date picker for the calendar view. View unprocessed invitations in Calendar view if user preference "Display new (unprocessed) notices" is set. Jump to "today" when another day is displayed. Location and time zone information is detected automatically. For accepted meetings, automatically apply accepted updates and reschedule information and provide status information in "Availability" and "Update" fields.
Contacts - The ability to open a contact from the address picker and a new quick contact form.
What's new in 8.5
- New framework - New tabbed framework for documents and views provides more parity with Lotus Notes and is more efficient.
- Lite mode - Introduced in 8.01, provides quick access to mail, contacts and day-at-a-glance calendar. New lite mode features include viewing mail quota information, responding to calendar invitations, and creating meeting invitations.
- Ultra-light mode - Provides access to mail, contacts, and a day-at-a-glance calendar on the Apple iPhone or iPod touch. It is also the accessible client for Lotus iNotes on Macintosh OS X, using Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or later browser.
- Open a document in a new window - From a message, you can "tear off" the message into a new window by clicking the
icon in the action bar.
- Switcher - Located at the top of the left navigation panel. Simply click an icon to open an application.

- Sidebar - Displays a day-at-a-glance calendar, instant messaging contacts, and Help. To open the sidebar, click Show > Sidebar or Sidebar Panels, and then select which panels to display.
- Preview pane - Can be viewed on the side or on the bottom of the screen, or hidden entirely.
- Day-at-a-glance - The day-at-a-glance calendar that displays your calendar entries in the sidebar.
- Loading status - When opening documents, tabs display a status icon indicating that a document is loading.
- External calendar overlays - Users can add an external calendar to their Lotus iNotes calendar.
- Lotus QuickrTM integration - Users can work with Lotus Quickr links in messages.
- Widgets - Users can add widgets to Lotus iNotes, such as weather forecasts.
- Console logging -- Status bar error message notifies you of errors and provides an easy way to view the console if desired.
