Offline Preferences

Offline preferences apply to offline subscriptions, and take effect when the offline subscription is installed. If you change any Offline preferences, you must reinstall your offline subscription in order for the changes to take effect.

Note Offline is not supported and these preferences do not appear in IBM(R) Lotus(R) iNotesTM in a Safari browser on Macintosh OS X.

Click Preferences, and then click Offline. Set any of the preferences listed in the table below:

Preference
Description
Include server's Domino(R) Directory
Available only if your administrator made a directory available that you can take offline with the current subscription.
Enable this to use address lookups, which is necessary for encrypted mail to work offline. The only reason not to enable this option is to reduce the time required to synchronize an offline subscription.
Compact mail file after sync
Enable this so that the offline mail file is compacted after synchronizing with the online mail file.
Compacting reduces the amount of disk space occupied by the local mail file. The only reason for not enabling this option is to reduce the time required to synchronize an offline subscription.
Update full-text index after sync
Enable this so that the full text index for the offline mail file (if any) is updated after synchronizing with the online mail file.
The only reason for not enabling this option is to reduce the time required to synchronize an offline subscription.
Encrypt mail file locally
Available only if your administrator enabled this feature.
Enable this to encrypt your offline copy of mail so that it cannot be opened by others without authentication. Select an encryption level:
  • Simple encryption -- (default) provides protection against casual snooping.
  • Medium encryption -- balances security strength with fast access.
  • Strong encryption -- use when security requirements are paramount and the resulting loss of performance is acceptable.

Note You must enable encryption before you create an offline copy of your mail. If you have already created an offline copy, you must delete it and reinstall.

Limit document attachments during sync
Enable to omit attachments if the total size of the attachment is greater than 100KB. Checking this option minimizes your local replica size.
Only sync documents modified in last <n> days
Check this option to synchronize only documents you have created or modified within a time frame set by you.
