Opening and Reading Mail


You can use mail to communicate with coworkers, friends, and family electronically. When you are not connected to the Internet, you can work offline and create, send, reply, and forward mail; all of your outgoing messages are sent when you go back online.

To open your mail, click the mail icon on the switcher:

Perform any of these tasks to view or read mail.

Open a message
Double click a message.
Preview a message without opening it
From any mail views (except Rules), click Show and then choose whether the preview pane opens on the bottom or the side.
Tip: You can also choose to hide the preview pane.
Find a message using scroll hints
Scroll hints display information as you scroll through your mail list views, based on how you have the view sorted. Sort a mail view by subject, date or sender. Then scroll through the list to find the desired message.
View unread messages only
Click Show > Unread Only.
View delivery information on a message you receive
From an open message, click More > Delivery Information.
Mark one or more messages read or unread
Click the arrow next to Mark As, and select whether to mark the selected messages or all messages read or unread.

Note Click the words Mark As to mark a selected messages read.

View MIME message information
Select a message and then click More > Show MIME Header or Show MIME Full.
View messages grouped with their replies so you can view an entire conversation at once
In the navigation panel, expand Views and then click Mail Threads.
From an open message or in the preview pane, click the mail threads icon Show mail threads icon.

Note This feature is available in full mode only and must be enabled by your administrator.

Edit a message you are reading
Click the edit button edit icon.
Move to the next or previous message without returning to the list view
Click one of the arrows at the top of the message up arrow that displays in an open message or down arrow that displays in an open message.
